Communicating the importance of the first 1,000 days in the life of a child

The first 1,000 days are a crucial time, both for mother and child. It is a time of tremendous potential and enormous vulnerability and has a profound impact on a child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive. There is also an emerging line of inquiry that shows that cognitive development in early childhood is strongly influenced by physical and mental stimulation in the early years, especially six months to two years. There is greater recognition of this reality and nations and organizations are coming together to improve early childhood care and development (ECCD).

CCC-I along with CCP is providing technical assistance to BvLF India and grantees/partners in social and behaviour change (SBC), specifically to design, implement and evaluate communication interventions that strengthen early childhood development and create an environment that enables parents to learn and use vital information to help their children grow holistically. For this, CCC-I and CCP are using well-tested strategic communication approaches such as the P-Process, Human Centered Design, etc. to design and test effective communication initiatives specifically supporting BvLF in its Urban 95 initiative and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s first 1000 days SBC campaign.
