MOMENTUM
Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics (MSSFPO) is a multi-country project (India, Nigeria,
Mali and Mozambique) funded by U.S. Agency for International
Development (USAID) that seeks to
support the Government of India (GoI) to sustainably build awareness of, and
equitable access to, high-quality care for voluntary, consented safe surgeries
for Caesarean delivery, fistula repair, childbirth-related hysterectomy,
long-acting reversible contraception, and permanent family planning methods.
Specifically, MSSFPO seeks to
accelerate reductions in maternal and new-born mortality and morbidity by
increasing the capacity of Indian institutions and local organizations to
introduce, deliver, scale-up, and sustain the use of evidence-base high-quality
prevention and treatment within
three key obstetric areas: Caesarean delivery (CD),
prevention/treatment of obstetric fistula, and voluntary uptake of Long-Acting
Reversible Contraception (LARCs).
Center for
Communication and Change – India along with Johns
Hopkins Center for Communication Programs is supporting MSSFPO
in designing Social and behavior change
(SBC) strategies and advocacy messages through Human-Centered Design to help improve trust and
communication between health care providers and clients and to increase demand
for appropriate obstetric services, while addressing stigma, misconceptions and
social norms around those services.
